Q: PICS APPROVAL/DENIAL PLZ HELP
OK here is the story
I went to wal mart in hazleton yeserday to purchase a Shotgun.... A Mossberg 835.... anyway I had no problem getting approval through PICS..... left the store with the shotgun.... all was well
Then about 4 hours later I was in cabelas in Hamburg and was going to Purchase my first Handgun... the Springfield Armory XDM 9..... Filled out all paperwork for PICS and I was DENIED?? Im 23yrs old and I have nothing on my record to prevent me from being approved???
Has anyone else ever had this happen?
I did send the PICS challenge form in this morning and I mailed it Next Day so Penn. State Police PICS Challenge UNIT will have it tomorrow by noon in Harrisburg..
I do not know why this would happen esp because I was approved earlier that day??
Any help here would be great..... The challenge form says it will take 5 business days MAX to respond???
AGAIN has anyone ever had this happen/challenged PICS before

Re: Q: PICS APPROVAL/DENIAL PLZ HELP
I cannot answer your question.
I can, however say that I too bought 2 guns (an 870,597 and a 9mm) in a short amount of time and there wasn't an issue. The guy at the counter (Gander Mtn) could've been feeding me BS but he said that usually the ATF investigates multiple purschases within a specified timeframe sometimes.
Like I said, this isn't confirmed information, perhaps someone could elaborate.

Re: Q: PICS APPROVAL/DENIAL PLZ HELP
I purchased 2 guns in the same day from the same dealer with no problem. And I purchased two guns in the same week from different dealers with no problem. Like another poster stated, maybe a flag popped up. See what they say in 5 days (it'll will probably feel like 5 weeks, but hang in there).

Re: Q: PICS APPROVAL/DENIAL PLZ HELP
I went through it myself and it took 2 weeks and then I had to challenge it and it took me a total of 3 weeks. i wouldn't sweat it. Just make sure when you get your approval letter to keep it for all of your future purchases.

Re: Q: PICS APPROVAL/DENIAL PLZ HELP
NOTHING " random " about it at all .
ALL multiple purchases of handguns by the same person with-in 5 business days MUST be reported to the ATF
Page 6 , 2nd Paragraph
Title " Multiple Handgun Sales Reports "
from this link http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RS22458.pdf
and here's the actual text of the requirement from the United States Code
If you sell or dispose of more than one handgun to any non-licensee during a period of 5 consecutive business days, the sale must be reported on ATF Form 3310.4, Report of Multiple Sale or Other Disposition of Pistols and Revolvers, not later than the close of the business day on which you sold or disposed of the second handgun. The licensee must forward a copy of the Form 3310.4 to the ATF office specified thereon, and another copy must be forwarded to the State police or local law enforcement agency where the sale occurred. A copy of the Form 3310.4 also must be attached to the firearms transaction record, ATF Form 4473, documenting the sale or disposition of the second handgun.
A business day for purposes of reporting multiple sales of pistols or revolvers is a day that a licensee conducts business pursuant to the license, regardless of whether State offices are open. The application of the term “business day” is, therefore, distinguishable from the term “business day” as used in the NICS context. Example: A licensee conducts business only on Saturdays and Sundays, days on which State offices are not open. The licensee sells a pistol to an unlicensed person on a Saturday. If that same unlicensed person acquires another handgun the next day (Sunday), the following Saturday or Sunday, or the Saturday after the reporting requirement would be triggered, the subsequent acquisition of a handgun would have to be reported on a Form 3310.4 by the close of the day upon which the second or subsequent handgun was sold.
