Default A shot in the dark, large frame revolvers from the 1980s

I am gonna take a chance here, and hopefully some of the old timers may remeber back in the early eighties, probably somewhere between the 1978 - 1988 era, there were a couple maybe 3 times I remember seeing these huge revolvers written about in Guns & Ammo magazine, but I cant remember anything but seeing the covers in myhead.

What I remember are the calibers, I THINK...!!

.460, .470, .500, but not the modern ones.. these were most likely specialty calibers at the time, wildcat loads, etc.

If I could see the covers I would know it immediately, but after searching the internet for old Guns & Ammo covers all evening, I came up empty.

Do any fo you remember such things, or at the very least have old Guns and Ammo magazins that you could look at to see..?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Hmm, I know the .500 Linebaugh is still alive and kickin. There is a backed-down load .460 caliber out there, just cant remember what it is.

Look for info from John Taffin, he has several books out there on old big bores.

I remember the .454 Casull.. These were different..

I remember a really large blued pistol with what appeared to be rosewood or cocobolo grips, and the other one was stainless or nickel plated with black grips..

Not much to go on, I know, but its caught my eye back then, because they were not commercially produced..

Thanks for the help anyway guys.. always appreciated..
