    Default Scrap Brass Price

I called the local (to me) scrap yard in Binghamton, NY and they are offering $0.75 per pound for scrap cartridge brass. I have 50 or 60 pounds of once-fired berdan that I want to get rid of. Is this a little low?
    Thanks.

Don't sell it in NY, they probably have some garuntee that it will never be turned in evil bullets ever again.

Yes that price sounds quite low, I had heard somewhere around Aubie's mention of about $1.50 per pound.

    Cool Re: Scrap Brass Price

I just asked at the salvage place a week ago and they said they will only go .60 and that they'd take it but would prefer not to because the alloys are not so great. Bet me, I'll be checkin online before sellin any.

With metal prices at all time highs...I'm sure that some recycling centers will be telling people that .60/lb is the going rate. I would definately recommend calling around to verify that quoted prices are the most current. I know some people that have even begun to pick up 22LR and 17HMR casing from ranges, so that is a lot more work than picking up 308 brass. You do the math, if people are willing to pick up rimfire cases.

UNLESS you are marcs...because picking up brass isn't worth his time when Wolf rules!!!

Our local scrap man doesn't want .22 brass he says because of unfired ammo mixed it with the casings. You may want to check before you get the metal detector out.

I find it difficult to have live ammo with just brass casings. When I check brass, I go by the weight when it's in my hands.

I have not resorted to picking up rimfire casings yet, but who knows what the future holds with metal prices.

I think #2(?) brass scrap is going for about $1.20/lb now.

I have been saving all my centerfire rounds for reloading...how many times can they be reloaded before considering them to be scrap?

When they crack or show other signs of fatigue.
An old rule of thumb was to discard rifle cases after they've been trimmed 5 times. But, with todays higher pressure loads you might want to shorten that. YMMV
