    Default Brothers mystery gun

My brother passed away 2 years ago, as far as I know he owned only 4 handguns. He was kind of secretive with his gun purchases, his wife didn't know most of the time (until after the fact). Then a little while ago his widow asked me to teach her how to shoot. So she brought all of the guns & ammo my brother had with her to the range. One of the boxes of ammo was 10mm and none of his 4 handguns are this caliber. My first thought was nobody buys ammo for a gun they don't own. He had also mentioned to me before his death that he wanted to get a 10mm someday, which leads us to believe he has another gun hidden away somewhere. The reason for all of this background info. is I was wondering if there is someway to find out if he bought a 10mm by searching all the paperwork we have to fill out for the state and feds, some of it must be accessible public records. Also, we did check with all of the local gun shops he frequented and none of them sold a 10mm to my brother.
Any input on how to access the purchase records would be helpful. Thanks

    WUT?

Records are not going to help even if you could get access.

Maybe he was stocking up for the day he could bring a 10mm home. Now adays it seem cheaper to buy the gun than the ammo.

But to answer your question I doubt there is an easy way to find out.

The "not a registry" registry would if they were bought in PA, and he had access to it.

Is the box full or partially full?

Is it possible he rented or borrowed a 10mm to shoot and had to buy the ammo and that is what is left over ?

any chance the State Police would do a database search if his widow requested?

Easiest way is to wear the gun openly at a gas station in Philly. Wait 5 minutes. Cops will come and stick a knee on your back and disarm you, perhaps taze you if you ask too many questions. Then they will "run " the gun into the database that is not a registry. Then it will come back as not yours, and you will know it must be his.

In all seriousness, Pa does not keep records of guns. It is actually illegal for the state to do so. However, some police will try to check on purchases to verify a gun' s owner. They do it via a backdoor and it is very incomplete. I have never heard of anyone attempting to do what you are trying to do. Usually it is the other way. Starting with a gun, they try to find the owner.

I know its a strange situation and I'm just playing a hunch because he talked to me about getting a Dan Wesson 10mm and he had that look we all get when we just have to have "that gun"...that and the only local shop/range that we've shot at doesn't and never has rented a 10mm. thanks for the input

I have ammo for guns I dont own (yet or anymore) best bet is to look around the house and see if he kept his copy of the paperwork. but thats not saying he didnt buy one and sell it either. the "not a registry" doesnt get updated when you sell a gun only when you buy one
