I carry my S&W 642 in a Desantis Apache ankle rig every weekday for at least 12 hours a day.
At 15oz loaded, you'll forget you are wearing it. The Desantis Apache ankle rigs are a great and inexpensive ankle holster. I've had mine for over three years now and it's holding up very well.
I can run with it on and my gun won't slip or move around.

I suggest either a S&W 642 or 442. Both are .38 Spl revolvers with an internal hammer, so there is far less likelihood of snagging when drawing. I prefer the revolver for ankle carry because very likely may be a "get off me" gun. A revolver will function when the barrel makes contact with a body where a semi-auto is prone to having the slide pushed out of battery.

I carried a 642 in a DeSantis Apache ankle rig for three years at work without discomfort or any issues. No one was ever wise to my carrying there.

I wore the rig to my cardiologist's office for an appointment and my cardiolgist felt my ankle to check for swelling. I was asked if I had an ankle weight on. I said "Yep".

A good number of S&W suggestions. Any reason not to go with a ruger sp101? Too heavy for ankle?

I carry a taurus 605 .357 on the ankle but would say that it would be nicer to have a titanium frame or other lighter weight gun to wear. Either that or make sure you have a really good holster to carry it in. I use an uncle mikes sidekick i think and though it is comfortable the wear, its only good for about 6 hours of walking. After that mine will ride on my ankle bone. (not good) Anyway the weight is an important consideration I think for the ankle.

Kahr PM9. No bigger than a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. Got some weight, but not too much. Good ankle carry piece.

Great Review (Read the second to last paragraph).
