Checked with LVMPD regarding NV nonresident permits
Hi all,
Since Nevada has decided to no longer recognize UT CCW permits because of their lack of a live-fire class, I made the effort, and called Nevada Department of Public Safety. Upon inquiring about the prerequisites to obtain a Nevada Nonresident CCW, I was told that issuance was handled on a city or county level. So, I called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and spoke with a very nice lady named Mary. She informed me that a CCW class must be taken in state, and then a Nevada certified firearms instructor will sign your application. After which, you bring it to the nearest city or county police/sheriff department. Pictures, fingerprinting, and interviewing will be done at those respective sites. Their application is kind of unique. I think they want one to qualify on each individual pistol that one wishes to have on the permit. Google it. Let me know your thoughts. I'm kind of miffed that they instantly changed the law back on 7/1, because now my UT nonres CCW ain't worth a sack of beans in NV.NRA Certified Firearms Instructor-2009,classes available.

Can't really get miffed about it seeing as how I don't live there. I don't elect their government so it's not my place to say whats best for their citizens.

That's understandable. However, if you'd like to go to Vegas one weekend with your significant other, it'd be nice to know that your CCW permit is in compliance with NV laws. Both PA and NJ are fucked here, because neither has a live-fire requirement prior to issuance. Only the states that have said requirement are honored in NV.

Seems to be a reasonable change (on their end).
Its like having a GED vs having a High School Diploma
Sure they are the same thing. But they took entirely different means to acquire.
If you want reciprocity then your only option is to write our lawmakers and try to get a live-fire requirement added. But then a good portion of this forum would probably be against you.

Quite true, quite true. But WE are fucked if we want to carry in NV, because of the new dipshit law they've passed. It sounds like a moneymaker to me. You want to carry in NV???? YOU have to take the class!!!!! YOU have to go to the LVMPD and PAY for your nonres CCW. I'll bet NV saw the writing on the wall and and set it up this way, so as to bring in extra revenue.

Las Vegas is VERY overrated, you would not miss a life changing experience by not going there.
