C-lect choke
I'm looking at a Mossberg 500 with C-lect Choke barrel. Does anyone have experience with the C-lect choke? Is it really an adjustable choke or more like an adjustable joke? If I screw one to full choke position, will it pattern as a full choke, something less but still a choke, or just the same as if it was left at cylinder bore? Any information appreciated.

Re: C-lect choke
In my experience with it, it has not worked as well as screw in choke tubes, and if not properly cared for, will freeze up and become stuck on the last setting you left it on. I would go with screw in tubes over C-lect choke any day of the week...
That's about it if you ask me.When seconds count, the police are usually just minutes away...

Re: C-lect choke
I've had a few of the adjustable choke Mossbergs and other shotties. They are about as effective as the short choke tubes that come with most interchangeable chokes today. Neither of which is as effective as a fixed choke barrel for patterning to what is advertized.
When you screw it down to full, its will constrict it to about .695-.705" which is in the full choke range with a 12ga. There are other settings to. It's variable, as you screw it down, it constricts the "petals"(lack of a better word). The body of it is graduated to show a relative constriction.
As mentioned above though, they can seize up if not properly cleaned.Last edited by knight0334; July 15th, 2009 at 12:38 AM.

Re: C-lect choke
Thank you both for your replies. This particular shotty is used and comes with both a C-lect choke barrel and a slug barrel. I think I'll buy it and find a ribbed barrel with Accuchoke tubes for use when actually trying to hit something on the fly. The bulbous end of the C-lect barrel makes me think that adding on a few items might make it look tacticool or (even worse) tacticruel. If I do anything with it, I'll post pics.
