Default Wifes first range trip today!!

When I first met my wife she was your typical "anti", blame the gun not the idiot pulling the trigger, I don't like guns because they are scary type. Eventually she realized I wasn't going to stop carrying or keeping guns in our home, soon after she started seeing the light a bit and admitting that in this world a responsible adult should be tasked with their own safety. For the last few weeks we have been doing little gun safety lessons here and there, handling and cleaning, etc. Well today is the day!! We have a babysitter coming and our bi-weekly "date night" is being replaced with an afternoon trip to the range!! Even though she won't admit it she is excited and I am like a kid at Christmas. I am taking a Glock 23 and a snubbie, but I think I'll rent her a .22 for her first time, is that the best idea?? Anyway, we will be at French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixville at about 130PM for an hour or two if anybody wants to meet. Wish me luck!!!

Thats a good idea. Let her watch you shoot first, it'll take some of the fear of the unknown away.
With a semi-auto, load it with only 1 round for the first shot. Remind her that the bark of the gun is worse than the bite.
For the first shot, make sure the target is pretty close. Hitting the target on the first try is good for the moral.

    You will both have fun.

Congratulations! I was in a similar position with my wife when we were first married. It took 9 years, but she finally agreed to go to the range to shoot with me. She started with a .22, and after 6 months, had worked up to shooting .45 accurately. After shooting .22, .380, .38, 9mm, and .45, she found that she liked the 9mm best. The woman who was once "anti" is now "pro", and has a LTCF and a Glock 19. Be patient with your wife, and keep us up to date. Good luck!

most important thing is to make it fun for her.give her easy to hit targets and targets that react balloons are great large easy to hit and they pop.teach safety first and last and take your time and best of luck.who knows your wife maybe will take to shooting like mine.show your wife these pic's of my wife at a IDPA shoot.she shoots a 9mm XD and loves it.crazywolf

Yes, renting a .22 is a very good idea. You don't want to scare her her first time out. You want to make it a fun target shooting experience. Shooting a .40 and a snubby is not fun for a lot of first time shooters. Especially one with anti tendencies.

Good luck and have fun. Remember, this is her first time. Focus on safety more than technique. You don't want to harp on her too much for her first time or she'll get fed up and not go again.

Be careful what you wish for. That can get spendy . Plus, i was always glad my ex never took an interest in shooting. It gave me and the kids some alone time.

And remember afterwards, remind her how sexy she looked shooting. It works!
