    Default Maryland Trooper question?

For all the LEO's out there, for what reason if any would a MD State trooper (in full uniform) be in Waynesboro PA, parked in his squad car and standing in line at McDonald's? Do they cross the border more often then I think? Or is this a rare occurrence?

I walked in today OC after a gun transfer and he seemed a little antsy that I was OC, but did not react or do anything... It was a little awkward, but things played out fine.

I was just more curious why he was in PA...

Maybe it's the closest McDonald's to his patrol area? I mean, that McDonald's is only 2 and a half miles from the border...

I'm surprised he didn't run out of the restaurant "for his own safety." Did you give him a flyer?

lol... no. It was pretty much a non-issue, so I didn't bother. This happened last year I think it was; when a bunch of NJ cops came into a fast food restaurant in Chambersburg while I was OC. You could cut the tension in the air with a knife.

Would he have to get permission from his boss to cross the state line while in a marked patrol car? Or just zip across, grab a burger and head back?

I don't see how it's any different from the Scott Township police officers that come a couple miles into the City of Pittsburgh for late-night dinner at Eat 'n Park.

They probably have a limit of how far you can go out of state though.

I guess the more general question would be does an on-duty LEO need permission to leave his particular jurisdiction for whatever reason ( lunch, chase bad guys, doughnut run, etc )
