Llama 45 cal
Just purchased another Llama ( I know, half will trash the gun, half will say they are great - lol ) but my experience has been great so far - have an XA 32 cal. and now a .45. I purchased it from the original owner, it is in great shape, including perfect box, manual, plastic bag gun came in, magazine and original bill of sale ( 1969 ) and warranty ( worthless now ). A few questions for any experts :
1. the manual shows all Llama's except 45 - odd. any idea if this is an IX-A
or a XIII or VIII, haven't done enough research yet
2. I wanted to treat the wood grips to keep them nice seeing
they are 40+ years old - any suggestions on what to use ? murphy's oil
soap ? a certain oil ?
3. the magazine has 8 holes which I thought would mean it held eight, but
I can only get 7 rounds in it - I am assuming it is really a 7 round ?
4. will colt magazines work if it looks the same ?
5. lastly, I paid $ 325, what do you think ?
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

Re: Llama 45 cal
From what I've read llama's can be really good or really bad. it doesn't help that they aren't a totally standard 1911 copy. The grips are different, alot of the other parts are slightly different than a standard 1911 and hard to find. i wouldn't shoot the gun much if i were you. not because it'll blow up or anything, but it's just a very good looking vintage gun.

Re: Llama 45 cal
Id rather find a 1911 in 9mm or 40sw than a 45cal

Nice looking gun , can't help you with your questions much but I will
say this , about 10-12 years ago I found one like yours in a local gun
shop and I came home and did some research on it , found that alot
of the problems with them was the cheaper steel they used , especially
on the slide , yours looks good though , the cheaper ones grips on the
slide were slightly curved , you did well !
I went back the next day to purchase the one I found , well , still
kicking myself in the ass for that one !! Gone !!! lol[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]"

I agree with autotech. Don't shoot it or do anything to the grips until you know what you've got... okay, 1968 isn't that old.. at least that what I keep telling people since that my birth year, lol... but this may be one of those sought after things that is worth allot more, if you didn't seal the wood grip.
Just a thought. Very nice gun. Enjoy!"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin

Re: Llama 45 cal
Thanks all - took it to the range for the first time, great shoot, very accurate and smooth. Left the grips alone, just did a good field strip and will take it to the range every now and then ! I know Llama takes a lot of hits, but this is my second and I love them both !
