    Default National Guard

I have been looking into joining the National Guard and my wife and friends advised me I could not. This is due to several broken bones due to motorcycle riding and open heart surgery when I was six due to a birth defect. I am planning on contacting a recruiter after the holiday. But I was wondering if anyone knew if this would disqualify me and why?

It would depend on if there are long term or limiting effects of your injuries, there may be some limitations on some of the jobs you can get but I am not 100% sure on what kinds of injuries or conditions disqualify you.

Talk to the recruiter....and thank you for wanting to serve.

Geez, recruiters do not waste time. I received a call from the recruiter today. We only chatted briefly (was at the parents loading my truck, there moving). I did get his cell # and I need to call him tomorrow. No long term conditions but I have a little metal in me.

Any pins in the broken bones? And as for the open heart surgery, some things can barr you from serving, my wife had cervical cancer and is at high risk of a reoccurance, therefore she can not enlist due to special medical needs that can not be guarenteed while on a deployment.

If you haven't had any other issues with your heart, you may be elgible, or not.

As for the "why" part, the Military pays for all medical, and as much as it sucks they don't want to pay for pre-existing issues. Also, basic training can be tough, if your heart can't take it...well, they don't like it when people die in basic training.

So don't be surprised if you have to sign some kind of waiver if you are eligable.

Well best of luck to you, but I think the cage in your neck will disqualify you. (This is not a fact, but it could) by all means talk to the recruiter.

If not, YOUR DEFINATELY signing a waiver

You may need to see a specialisit, your recruiter can probably tell you which to see, and they will be able to basically sign a doctor's note. If you have been seeing the same doctor over the past several years it will be a lot easier/cheaper to do.

The MEPS doctor will basically sign off on it. The military just dont' want to pay the $450K if you die.

These are my opinions, my opinions only. If you are offended, please, please, call Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, I would like the notoriety.
