Default 9mm AR 15 range report

I test fired my newest edition today, and I am ecstatic. The mongrel consists of a AA lower, a RRA A2 9mm upper, all the RRA goodies in the lower and the inexpensive plastic magazines. Everything, even the bolt hold open on the last round functioned flawlessly. The parts took forever to arrive. I have about six months of waiting time in this build. It was worth it.

I put 100 rounds through it today and by the 25th shot I was wanting to start to sight it in. I brought a friend with me to keep me from smashing the rifle into little pieces in the event that my rifle became one of the horror stories. He stopped me from adjusting any sights because this was just a functional test. At 25 yards I was making a ragged hole 2” below the center of the target. So taking his advice, I did a functional test of the magazines by doing three mag dumps and finished off the ammo I had.

The only thing I wish I had done differently was to have spent more money on the trigger group.

those are fun, its funny though how the 9mm straight blowback recoils more than the .223 gas system. Really highlights how effective the gas system on an AR is for reducing recoil.

your gonna need more 9mm to feed that baby !

I love shooting steel with my 9mm Sub2k

one thing to look out for is that straight blowback needs a good hot load to function well. Its got to throw that heavy bolt back decisively to function right. I never have great luck, noe the guys I know running 9mmAR's with cheaper bulk ammo like WWB or Blazer Brass. A heavy bullet will help that as well.

I have a CMMG M4 9mm, it's my favorite AR to shoot. If you decide to get more mags just make sure to get metalform mags, you will be glad you spent the extra $ on them.

Yes it is. That is the main reason I stuck as closely to A2 as I could, but nobody backs a 20" barrel in 9mm.
