I bet they thought the law read you can only steal one gun a month. After all no politician would want to see more shops close in this recession

Wait a second. What do you mean by "steal one gun a month"? I thought stealing by itself was illegal. I also thought that felons are banned from gun possession. Now you're talking as if criminals stealing guns is just fine, as long as they follow quantity rules?

Then again, we're talking about New Jersey. Maybe I should not be so surprised after all. When was the last time that New Jersey got anything right about guns and crime?

Stealing is illegal but it would be another charge that they can plea bargain away. And we all know most politicians don't read bills, their aids do. And tell them what it says.

Also we all know that most 99% of politicians are lawyers. And you can't name one lawyer who would pass a law that doesn't have a loophole in it

Law is the only perpetuum mobile possible.

The basic concept of this bill is to prevent straw purchases. I don't think that you will find many people who will disagree with keeping guns away from the criminals.
Straw purchases simply do not happen in New Jersey. IN order to purchase a handgun one must first have a Firearms ID Card wich required fingerprinting and background checks. A seperate permit (one for each pistol) must be obtained from the police department for each handgun purchased. This handgun is then "registered" to you. Why would somebody who went through the legal procedure of purchasing a handgun then go ahead and sell it to an ineligable person when it can eaasily be traced back to them?
Like most of New Jerseys gun laws this is more show than substance. It is passed because it seems to make sense if you do not look deeply into it. It is just another law that will serve to make criminals out of law abiding citizens.
We can always hope that Gov. Corzine will not sign it.
