Woman robbed at ATM in McCandless
    Sunday, June 21, 2009
    By Karen Kane, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A woman was robbed at gunpoint at an automatic teller machine in McCandless this morning, according to an Allegheny County emergency dispatch supervisor.

The unidentified woman was attempting a transaction at a PNC ATM at 50 McIntyre Square Drive in the McIntyre Square shopping plaza when a white male with a weapon robbed her.

The dispatcher said the man fled in a black, four-door Chevrolet car.

The armed robbery occurred at 8:09 a.m. McCandless police are investigating.

The suspect is described as a white male, of thin build, average height, with short brown hair, and in his early 20s. He was wearing a Penguins jacket with the year "1967" on the left side of the jacket. The team was founded in 1967. He also was wearing a gray knit cap with a small bill.

Police said he had been parked near the ATM as the victim drove up to it. He displayed a silver handgun with black grips and demanded that she withdraw a specified amount of money.

Anyone with information is asked to call McCandless police at 412-369-7992.

    UPDATE

Suspect in ATM robberies dies in apparent suicide
    Monday, June 29, 2009
    Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A suspected robber shot and killed himself after he was confronted by police outside his home yesterday.

Jonathan Muhl, 27, of Lincoln Club Road in McCandless, died at 9:51 p.m. at the scene of the shooting.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint at an automatic teller machine in McCandless on the morning of June 21. Investigators eventually developed Mr. Muhl as a suspect.

The unidentified woman was attempting a transaction at a PNC ATM in the McIntyre Square shopping plaza when a white male with a weapon robbed her.

Police said he had been parked near the ATM as the victim drove up to it. He displayed a silver handgun with black grips and demanded that she withdraw a specified amount of money.

A second robbery was reported at the plaza over the weekend.

Outside Mr. Muhl's home, he pulled a pistol when confronted by township police, the Allegheny County medical examiner said.

When ordered to drop the weapon, the suspect instead shot himself in the head, the medical examiner said.

His death is being investigated as a potential suicide, a spokesman for the medical examiner said.

I'm friends with a person that went to school with him. Apparently, he's had issues for the last couple of years and it all came to a head. I think he was trying to get caught to give him an excuse for the suicide.

I agree. At least this one didn't have to go to trial so this dirtbag could get off with only a couple years.
