    Of course no sweating the small stuff, but this question has been answered multiple times. Like this week's thread about living in a school zone, another about picking up one's kids from school, the one with the diagram of all the school zones in Phoenix to illustrate how a visitor to the state would be unable to enter the city while carrying, the FAQ, the reference library (for those who speak legalese) and likely a few other places that didn't come up in a quick search.

    True, these discussions generally come up with the "any legal purpose" clause, but it's consistently decided that the wording there is a little vague to be sticking one's freedom on.

    Which is why I opted for a direct answer with only a passing reference to the resurrection of an old thread. It's much more likely that you used not quite the right wording for the finnicky search, and we generally like to be helpful.

    Uh, wait a second. If transporting the way you suggest is ok or legal, then why do you have to lie to a cop? And if lying to a cop is part of your plan, is it because you recognize that what you're doing isn't legal? I sure hope it's not 10:30pm when you need to pull this off and the ranges are closed.

    While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

    Specifically on what are you basing your opinion?

    open carry of long gun within 1000' ft of school. we are not licensed under LTCF for long guns. so we are violating federal law if we OC a long gun and walk within 1000' of school even with LTCF????

    That's a gray area. One could argue that the LTCF does extend a license to longarms since there are situations (Phila carry and State of Emergency carry) that become licensed longarm activities under its umbrella.

    Also one could argue that the intent of the law and the concomitant exception for LTCF carry under 18 USC 922(q)(2)(B)(ii)
    if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;
    was to allow firearm possession by those that were 'cleared' as 'good guys' by the host state. It would be absurd to allow those to possess a handgun but not a longarm.

    That being said, I wouldn't recommend testing those defenses unless you're prepared for the cost and potential consequences. It is uncharted territory as far as case law is concerned.

    they have modified the route to avoid 1000' of the schools except in one area skirting the "zone" by about 200ft. i understand that its a federal thing...but untill hb357 kicks in..do we have any protection from the federal choice to arrest if they choose to...so im not so inclined to give them an excuse
