Semi-Auto Glenfield M60 .22cal long rifle w/ Glenfielde scope
Hey, I was cleaning out my closet and in the very back I found the rifle listed above. Rusty and old. Does anyone know anything about these rifles, how old, worth, etc?
How would I go about cleaning it? It has a little rust on the outside of the barrel in a few places and also by the ejector. I have no idea when this thing was last fired. It has the old tube under the barrel to be filed with only .22 cal long rifles!
Any help out there?????????????????????1 step at a time will get you through a hard journey!

Yeah. I owned one for awhile. They are decent plinkers. Mine was a bit finicky about ammo, like most semi 22's are. I would run a wet patch or 5 through the barrel and see what comes out.

What about the rust? Should I worry about that after I see if it fires or not?

Surface rust? Just use a scotchbrite and WD40 and very gently work it over the surface areas. It's not that aggressive as long as you are not, and it's not like you are working on a Browning.
And it's doubtful the internals are so bad you can't have fun with it as a plinker.
Assuming this has no huge family historical value, parts are available for the gun for you to restore as you see fit.

Re: Semi-Auto Glenfield M60 .22cal long rifle w/ Glenfielde scope
Probably gummed up pretty good.
For the rust. OOOO steel wool and a light oil, rub lightly, it will remove the rust but not the remaining finish, don't be too aggressive. If it is really ugly and little cold blue will make it look presentable.
If she was stored for that long, it probably need to be taken apart and cleaned inside and out. Many lubricants when they age and dry up get gummy and will cause functioning problems in guns, especially semi-auto .22's.

Scroll down to Marlin model 60, they have the Marlin owners manual in PDF, shows you how to take it apart and has an exploded diagram.
