    Default Losing my range

I usually don't post dribble or rants but I am really beside myself over this one. For years I have been going into the woods behind my house to shoot. yesterday I notice orange stakes in the woods. Come to find out they are going to clear the forest and build a church in there. I guess this is the end of my shooting freely behind my house. No one around me and they build this 7000sqft monstrosity right behind my house.

Anyone else have development encroach on their privacy? Hardly anyplace left to move to without someone getting in the way.

    I feel for you.

    Sorry to hear it.

When I bought, I bought the lot to my right and the big lot behind me to prevent encroachment. The lot behind goes uphill, is forested, and leads to a big hill way in the back. Unfortunately, I don't own the whole side of the hill on my side. But if someone builds on the downslope (I would think they would tend to build on the hilltop), I will just increase my shooting berm heighth and width and angle it slightly differently.

All the locals used to hunt back in there.

I hope you can find a new angle or something that you did not think of.

YOU shoulda bought the land before the church did.
At least you were able to enjoy the time you had using someone else's property as a private range for free.

always sucks to loose your place to shoot. guess you will have to start looking for a private club. stay away from state game lands they are more of a hastle than they are worth.

Land would not have been available. The guy donated it to the church and had owned it forever. I suppose I could create an adequate birm behind my house since its not flat but then its shooting within 300yrds of a church parking lot. I can only see this causing problems. .22Lr might be okay but I pull out the AR and I can only see old lady's crying to 911.

Can anyone shed some light on the PA law concerning this? Never had to ask and don't know.

    No problems here.

    1. Family range on our 64acre farm that borders the Clear Creek State Forest(formerly Kittanning St. Forest)
    2. 75yrd range at the Warsaw Twp Sportsmans
    3. Back yard pistol & rifle range at my mom's brother and aunt's 200+ acre farm
    4. Back yard shooting at my cousin's place
    5. at lib shooting at my dad's cousin's 250+ acre parcel

The only issues we have on occasion are some folks from NY, NJ, Philly, Pitt, or some other urban area buying up farms or lands and expecting the shooting noise to not be present.

Problems become that there are weddings on a lot of Saturdays, Funeral Services/Memorial Services at the church, and possibly a cemetary for members will be added if there is enough property!

Then there is the inevitable Daycare that will show up for M-F, Youth meetings, Special meetings, well, you get the idea. It could become a near 24x7 operation.

Nothing against organised religion, but there is a lot that is usually done at the church beyond Sunday services.
