Default Walked up to 4 cops OC'ing

What a night I had last night.

I get a call from my friend Pete last night around 2 in the morning. He says, "Hey Shawn, I need to ask you a big favor."
    Me:"What up"
Pete:"I got myself in a predicament"

    So he explains his "predicament"

He was out with 2 of his friends, they were a little drunk, and had been pulled over for running a stop sign like 2 blocks from his house. The cops breathalized them, all .08, , the cop was nice though, he said he wouldn't arrest them for DUI because of how close they were to home. But he would give them a ticket for running the stop sign. One catch, they were not allowed to drive any where, and if they didn't get someone to drive the car for them, the car would be towed for blocking the street or something.

So he calls me and asks me to drive up to his roomates house, park my car and walk down to where he got pulled over, then drive them to his house.

I say cool, I've got nothing else to do, and I'll help him out.

So I drive up there, park my car at his house, walk down to the "scene". Approach the cops, and ding ding ding. Let the games begin.

Me:"So I guess I'm their DD for tonight"
Cop:"Yes sir, may I see your DL?"
    Me: *hand it to him*
Cop: *Double takes at my hip*"Is that a gun?"
Me: "It was when I left my house."
Cop: "Why would you carry a gun?"
    Me:"Sir, it is perfectly legal."
Cop: "Yeah, but, why would you carry it to a traffic stop?"
Me: "I'm not any threat to you guys, and I didn't want to walk around here at night unarmed."
Cop: "Ok, well stand there, I'll run your DL, and just don't touch the gun please."
    Me: "You got it chief."

Then, the other 3 cops there kind of situate themselves on all sides of me, keeping an eye on me. So he runs my DL, gives it back to me, and wishes me a good night, I return the gesture and drive my inebriated friends home.

They said that when they heard the cop say "is that a gun", they were like "O shit, we are all going to jail."

Well any way, it went very well, the part that confused me, is they never asked for my LTCF. Even when I got in the car to drive them home. That confused me.

Well we get back to his house. They were so happy, they escaped a DUI, escaped their car being towed, watched a man approach 4 cops with a gun and nothing happened, and got one hell of an adrenaline rush. Me, well I got 20 bucks out of it, and I very interesting experience. I was happy how the police handled the whole thing, very calm.

Well there it is, my interesting night. The spirit of OC, lives on.

O and Warpt762X39, It happened like right outside of your house, on Elizabeth ave.

    Armed, I am free.

sounds like an amusing encounter with a LEO but personally I think your friend should get a DUI i've seen what drunk drivers do to families.

I don't disagree with you. Like I said though, the reason they got pulled over was due to running a stop sign, and the stop sign in question here is very easy to miss. I could not tell they were even drunk. My buddy wasn't driving, his friend Jeff was, but I see where you are coming from. Not making excuses for them, just saying.

No point for a .08 you're just splitting hairs there. I'm a staunch opponent of DUI myself but come on, there are bigger fish to fry with far more staggering BACs...

Once I went to the local State Police barracks to give a female friend a ride home. The officer ran my DL for some reason. This was 2002 or 2003. I would deff question it now, but didn't think to then. BTW- Great stuff Rauswaffen!

To make sure the driver we are authorizing to drive the person home is not driving under suspension. He was also smelling your breath while you were talking to him.
