    Default 1911 slide stop

I know this is a total noob question but i searched and couldn't find anything. My 1911 came with an extended slide stop and I would like to replace it with a non-extended version. is there any fitting involved in this or is it simply buy the part and put it in? thanks

AFAIK, that is a drop in part! No smithing needed.

I've been thinking of replacing my standard stop with an extended version, just never got around to it.

It is just a take out the old one and install the new one.

Just check your magazines afterward to make sure that the magazine follower is engaging the slide stop.

Also make sure that the follower matches the caliber of the 1911 that you are shooting.

9mm and 38 super slide stops extend into the frame a bit longer than the 45acp slide stop will, and this might cause the magazine follower to hang up on the slide stop.
    gotta love her ;)

"Drop in" does not mean it doesn't require fitting. Slide Stops almost always require some sort of fitting. It is not rocket science and can usually be done quickly with a file and a stone.

Usually minor fitting even for "drop in" parts like that is needed. A round/flat metal file or a thin jeweler's file will take care of most fitting work.
