    Default WWII Weekend

I attended this event last year and I highly recommend it to all!

There are as many things on the ground as there are in the air.

Here's my video (of the airshow portion of the weekend):

Its a 6 min video with 3 songs, some flyby's with the real sounds, some of the ground action and wing folding, and then some of the beauties... all put together with music from the 40's....
    (click HD for better quality)

And this is someone else's video featuring a glimpse of the ground stuff:

    .... and a promo video:

I went the year before last, and it's a FUN, FUN day. Get there EARLY because parking is nutz, and traffic on 222 and 183 gets crazy. If you can go on Friday, all the better because it's nowhere near as busy as Saturday and Sunday.

    Bring sunscreen.

There's plenty to eat/drink there, and they do have potable water in tanks for free.

In my opinion, it is worth every penny for the day.

    Thumbs up Re: WWII Weekend

I recommend the MAAM show (WW II weekend). Great for the kids to see all the aircraft, military personnel, Abbott & Costello, Big Bands and the main reason in my opinion, to pay respect to those WW II warriors, who are dying off every day. I reenacted there for three years in a row doing the WRDG radio show (Lone Ranger, a gangster in the Shadow, etc.) I had the pleasure of meeting Dutch Van Kirk, Jack Lucas (youngest MOH), German aces, American aces and some of the Tuskegee airmen. They have a French village mockup with firefights, a few years ago flame thrower demos and much equipment as well as a venders row. Remember no smoking as one numbnuts decided to light a cigar after a plane had just been refueled. Luckily we weren't flamed working out of a t-hanger.

Last year I was able to fly in a Waco biplane! I can't wait to get there on Saturday (EARLY)!

Some pictures and videos I took last year. Click thumbnails for bigger.

One of the battle reenactments. We had a good vantage point from where we were taking shelter from the sun. Thanks to 12x zoom camera.

Had another great time this year. This is the 13th year ive been going and it never gets old. I met six of the 506th "band of brothers" members and bought a book for them to autograph. Met 2 pathfinders from the 506th and one of the survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis and a co-pilot from the dolittle raid. Also talked to Dutch Van Kirk which I did the other year and talked to a P-61 Blackwidow pilot. There were others I talked to and others I sadly didn't have time to talk to. Definatley worth every penny, I could have ordered my autographed books online but meeting and talking to them upfront is priceless, especially when so many veterans from that era are passing away each year, can't think of a better way to celebrate D-Day. Next year will be the 20th anniversary of the show, so that should be fun!
