Default NY off duty cop killed by a on duty NY cop

a plain clothed cop pulled a gun on someone that was rummaging thru his car and a uniformed officer that was drivig by saw the pursuit and shot and killed the off duty cop , that makes me nervous cuz what if someone has to pull their gun for self defense and gets shot by a cop that sees it.

Hmm another NY City cop that didn't follow correct procedure and now there is a dead innocent... go figure.
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

    What are you talking about??

The officer followed the correct procedure.. Since mere possession is illegal in NYC, the standard procedure would be to shoot the person holding a gun, then ask questions.

Both cops were not in uniform. The black cop was off-duty, not an on duty plain clothed officer. The shooter was on duty and wearing street clothes. When the culture of the department is to brutalize people, especially dark skinned people first and ask questions later, this sort of thing is inevitable.

This is why I would be afraid to carry in NYC or Chicago.

That, and stories like this: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/26/nyregion/26cops.html

Please support, with actual facts, your claim that the officer who fired is a racist, and did so because of racism.

Or are you just hating on white people? Is it your claim that a white person involved in a shooting should somehow be automatically assumed to have fired because of race?

For any Police Offocers out there. What would correct procedure be in this type of situation. I can see both sides but just want to know what the procedure is under these circumstances.

The on duty officer should have identified himself and ordered the off duty officer to cease the chase and drop his gun. If the off duty officer was only in chase with the firearm, and didn't have it raised to fire at the BG or anybody else, then on duty officer should not have fired as there were no immediate threats to anybody. Poor training, IMHO

You don't know what their training consisted of... Some people are just goofs.
