    Welcome.
No harm, no foul. With the number of terrorist attacks the last few years, it's as relevant as ever.

Last year I assisted another instructor who was teaching a pistol class for a group of volunteers from a church. It's great seeing a congregation taking responsibility for their own security. I wonder how many churches actually do?

So many people bitch at me for this one, but i have to explain this to them every fucking time. Reposessers DO NOT need a 235 but because i wear black boots, 511's and some duty belt accessories (key holder, glove holder) with a g22 in a serpa and a double mag carrier and have AGENT on my shirt they claim i need a 235 and i now hand Phila PD a copy the law above and walk away. How ever because I'm licensed via the Pennsylvania Department of banking they kinda frown on it but i really dont give a shit!

Id say thats my two cents on this matter but I've lost my cents so long ago! ;P

I think the OP is OK because he is not getting paid. So he is not employed. (but that is just me).

To be safe there should never be any documents showing a list of official church "security members", a list of duties, or specific times you are supposed to be watching. Keep everything verbal and help out when you can. Then you are just a private citizen who happens to be a member of the church

Or, to be safe, just take the class and get certified. Seriously, does the church want a somewhat a competent security team, or just random parishioners with guns?

Some of the group I helped to train were novice shooters. They probably didn't know much about applicable laws either. The 235 class would do them good. And yes, anyone but a mutant can pass the Act 235 qualifier, but they don't know that - the qualifier will motivate them to train more before the class.

One and done....that has to be a record.
