I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS AN ARMY STAFF SERGEANT HOME ON LEAVE
I TOLD HIM HOW HARD (IMPOSSIBLE) IT IS GETTING AMMO HERE AT HOME
HE TOLD ME HIS UNIT WAS ORDERED TO USE UP ALL THEIR 9MM AMMO ON THE TRAINING RANGE
SAID HE'D NEVER BEEN ORDERED TO DO THAT BEFORE ...THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE
IS THE GOVERNMENT CREATING THIS SHORTAGE BY FILLING FABRICATED MILITARY CONTRACTS BEFORE CIVILIAN / RETAIL ORDERS ?
WIN / WIN SITUATION FOR ALL BUT CONSUMERS
AMMO MFG. STAYS BUSY , MOVES ITS PRODUCT , MAKES GOOD $$$ ON MIL. CONTRACTS , CIVILIANS STAY UNARMED
WHO NEEDS GUN CONTROL WHEN YOU CAN JUST MANIPULATE FLOW OF AMMO
I'M NOT A CONSPIRACY NUT ...

yeah its been hard to find 9mm ammo, i am still looking and when i see them i will buy iti mostly do my bullet shopping the 1st week of the month.

I'm not sure but have heard that suppliers for D.O.D ammo contracts have dedacated production lines just for those contracts that do not affect commeracal production.
Defence supply invatories are dated. Depending on the items, some are sold, some are destroyed, and some are just used up.
I would say that ammo is one thing that is not sold as N.O.S.(new old stock) so better to get somemore range time using it up them destroying it.
Just my take of this.

yes those contracts do effect commerical ,cuz they use up materials like brass and primers thats the main cause of the ammo shortage, they are using brass materials to make it for their contracts in D.O.D. and LEO and there isnt enough materials or time to make it to replenish the commerical ammo.

I have been told by numerous people that it is easier to shot out all the ammo rather than turn it in. If you shoot it all you dont have to do the return paper work.

OK, from someone who was on the inside.....of the Army. A unit is allocated certain amount of ammunition each year. This amount is based on the job and number of slots....not soldiers, but positions in the unit. A job where combat is not considered a primary concern will get allocated enough ammo for each soldier to qualify each year. A combat arms soldier will get more, since his job requires him to be "more proficient". If a unit is understrength by 10% that means they will have a surplus of ammo. If a unit does not consume all of it's allotment, they 'may' not have conducted the training that is required. Also, their allotment for next year may be cut by the amount they did not use.

Yes it's wasteful. But it's fun, too. Except when you have to consume the extra 250 rounds of 00 buck. That gets painful.

We use to do this when qualifying for the State. Never return ammo. Then you don't have to do all the math and paperwork on putting it back on the shelves. I think they caught on, and ordered us to bring back what we don't shoot.

I did see where Winchester just got the DOD contract. Maybe they are getting rid of the old, so they don't mix and match it with the new stuff.

Great, it is already hard to find WWB. I guess it will be about impossible now.
