3 From Delco under arrest for illegal gun sales
From Delcotimes.com
-------------
PHILADELPHIA — Three Delaware County men are among 21 individuals facing gun trafficking charges in Philadelphia.
The arrest of the 21 suspects marked the 300th arrest by the city’s Gun Violence Task Force, launched in December 2006 to deal with the large number of illegal guns on the street.
“These arrests are clear and fair warning to anybody who believes that they can straw purchase a gun for a convicted felon,” said Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham. The D.A. was accompanied by Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey and state Attorney General Tom Corbett in making the announcement.
“Straw purchasers will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Abraham said.
Gun traffickers supply handguns to felons who are prohibited from purchasing firearms under law. They use straw purchasers, who pass federal background checks, to make the illegal buys.
Since its inception, the task force has initiated 998 investigations involving the illegal transfer of firearms, made 305 arrests and has taken 641 illegally obtained firearms off of the streets. The task force has also assist Philadelphia police with numerous cases involving shootings, robberies and homicides.
Arrest warrant were issued Thursday for:
n Whitney Kimbrough, 32, of the 1600 block of Garrett Street, Upper Darby, and Andrew MacLaren, 25, of the 200 block of La Grange Avenue, Essington. MacLaren is alleged to have illegally sold two handguns to Kimbrough in Philadelphia in exchange for cash and drugs.
n Anthony Roberts, 41, of the 1300 block of South Longacre Boulevard, Yeadon. Roberts, who does not have a license to carry, allegedly carried a concealed 9 mm “Desert Eagle” handgun in Philadelphia.
n Kenneth Lamar, 31, of the 7100 block of Radbourne Road, Upper Darby. Lamar is alleged to have illegally sold four handguns on the streets in Philadelphia.
Abraham also announced that Bryan Sims, 20, of the 200 block of Lewis Street, Lansdowne, was recently sentenced to three to six years in prison after pleading guilty to purchasing a stolen .40-caliber handgun in Philadelphia.

Now we need to hope that the Judicial system doesn't let them back out on the streets to do a repeat.

Re: 3 From Delco under arrest for illegal gun sales
Last night, FOX news did a pretty good job making note of that exact problem, though their focus was on the poor use of the "halfway houses" and the number of "escapes" from them and the results of the escapes. Seems the repeat violent offenders, even those that get rejected for parole, can still get moved to these "Halfway Houses" by the State Prisons, with NO input from judge/jury, lawyers or anyone else.
Tip of the iceburg, I know, but at least they're beginning to give it a bit of visibility. Dave Schratwieser was the reporter and he did a pretty good job of opening that can of worms.
Here's the link to his report, in full...

Re: 3 From Delco under arrest for illegal gun sales
Can "convicted felons" still pray?
Can the military put troops up in their house, without permission?
Are they allowed to be tortured into confessing?
I'm just curious if the Bill of Rights as a whole has been negated for them, or if it's just part-and-parcel.
