Do I leave it Stock?
Ok , so i picked up a MAK 90 today in a trade. It is all stock with a milled receiver and 8 30rd mags. Question is should I do anything to it? It is a nice looking gun and will be my go to gun. Im just wondering if I should do anything to it. It has a straight cut receiver so I can fit just about any stock on it with some fitting. I kinda like the rough " I can drag it through the dirt and it will still work" look.
Not sure if I want a scope or red dot on it , With my distance sight it would help , but i also want this gun to be able to just throw in the truck and go if needed. Any sugestions???

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
An Ultimak rail with an Aimpoint T1/H1 mounted directly to it will be a great durable option, and you can leave it on if you want to.
After shooting one setup this way, I can honestly say it makes shooting the AK SOOOOO much easier.
It's not a permanent mod, so you can always swap it back...but it makes it a lot easier to put lead on a target, quickly, no matter the lighting conditions.

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
My first order of business would be the thumb hole stock exiting stage left. I'm a pistol grip person, not so much a thumb hole fan. Some are better than others, and that looks WAY better than those god awful Drago clone WASR stocks that make me ill.
But it's really up to you.
Ultimak and H1 is a great option. $10 says the H1 costs more than you paid for the rifle though.
Meprolight makes tritium front and rear irons for the AK for <$100. A good idea if it's going to be a 24/7 gun.
I mod cars for a living though... so I don't leave a damn thing stock.

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
I have a buddy with the same gun and as soon as the money is in my hand I'm going to take he thumbhole wood and slap on the strikeforce package that's on cheaperthandirt for $89
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
Go get an Ironwood Designs sstock kit for it. Beyond that, don't do anything to it!

De-ban it with a set from Ironwood and you are good to go. You can always throw a Ultimak and T1/H1 down the road if you want. Congrats on your new Mak it looks great and I am glad your deal worked out, the rifle looks great!

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
It really depends on how much your willing to spend. I would do one of the following two options, depending on how far you want to go. Just remember, once you remove the thumbhole stock you now have to play the 922r game.
1. Remove the stock and get a set of Ironwood stock set (w/ wood grip).
2a. Do #1 and replace the GB and FSB to accept a bayonet.
2b. Do #1 and replace the FSB to one that has a folding spike bayonet. You would have to mod the low HG so that the bayonet would fold, or find a set of original HGs
My preference would be 2b but that's the most expensive option, but you would have the original configure like the nice polytech spikers ... like this.

Re: Do I leave it Stock?
Gotta agree with other here, you need to "de-Clintonize" it .... put it back to a real AK set up and then see what you want to do from that point.
