Taurus 1911 - Opinions?
Hey all,
Another Chambersburg area guy here. New to the forum and loving it!! My question is this: Is it worth the $650 or should I look for another 1911? I rented one the other day at the Shooters Range and it had a great trigger and shot real well. This will not be for CCW, I have too many others that work better for that. Just looking at getting something new to shoot. So for my first 1911 what should I be looking for?
Thanks

Re: Taurus 1911 - Opinions?
I would be buying new. I just want to know what I should be looking for in a good 1911. Im not sure price equals quality with these guns. I have many friends who have Kimbers and cant feed ammo reliably through them, so their $1250 didnt necessarily buy them a better gun. Not bashing Kimber or anything, just a fact I see on the range.

Re: Taurus 1911 - Opinions?
I think we need a sticky for all those people asking about the Taurus 1911.
I had bad luck with mine. I went back to Taurus not long after buying, then I sold it when it came back. There are others that had similar problems. On the flip side, more than a few guys on here have em, love em, and have nothing but luck with em.
I bought mine when they were still like $400-$450 new. Now that they went up, I would say jump to a Springfield.
Just my .02Is it five o'clock yet?

OK, what is a GOOD 1911 then? Springfield? Para? Shot 50 rounds last week with the Taurus. That is my 1911 experience, so I need guidance from the experts here.
Thanks

Re: Taurus 1911 - Opinions?
Ive never had a problem of any kind with Taurus . I ran over 3k rounds thru a Taurus PT92 that was my daily carry piece in Florida . My wife's daily carry piece was a Taurus Millenium Pro .40 , also with several thousand rounds throught it with nary a problem . Our experiences with those two led me to put down a deposit on a Taurus 1911 AR . Yes there apparently have been some problems with the ambi safety , its a straight foward and cheap fix . Certainly not serious enough for me to rule out buying one . As many have pointed out YMMV , but Im obviously not a member of the " Taurus Sucks Club "

For $650 do yourself a big favor...
Drive up to the Altoona area. East Coast gun sales stocks STI products. Buy yourself a STI Spartan for the $650.
A STI Spartan is a better gun from the barrel bushing to the grip safety. If the Spartan wont out shoot and out run a Taurus....I'll buy the gun from you...then eat the box.

I like my Para p14-45, no problems with it at all. I've heard good things about the Taurus...and bad things about the Taurus. I owned a Taurus and it ran flawlessly. I think with any company you will get your good and your bad.

Re: Taurus 1911 - Opinions?
I've had several Taurus pieces and recently bought the PT1911 in SS. I couldn't be happier with it after several hundred rounds.
Granted, some have had issues with them, but I have NEVER had a single issue with taurus. They also have the best customer service in the industry, so if you did get a glitchy piece, it really isn't a horrible day.
When was the last time you bought a car, any brand, that did not have at least one 'line-wide' problem? By 'line-wide' I mean Camaro, or Mustang, or Charger. If Taurus does have an issue with their ambi-safety it is only with a few of them, not all. If you listen to the doomsayers, you might as well never buy anything but Jaguar ever again. Oh wait, we settled that issue earlier this past week.
