Default Ultrasonic Cleaner for cleaning guns

I've been thinking of picking up a 2.75 liter ultrasonic cleaner. Looks like it should be large enough to clean pistols with. Anyone have any experience with them?

Will they damage glocks or XDs?

Know of any not too expensive cleaners I can fit the whole AR upper receiver into.

What will harm any polymer gun is not the ultrasonic action but the material (solvent) that you use in the cleaner. I routinely us an ultrasonice to completely clean and degrease guns. If all steel you can use any grease cutter.

Before you use an ultrasonic, test it with either and internal blued part or somethin that you don't care about to see how it is going to be affected.

Be very careful if you have TFO night sights on your pistols. While I didn't try it personally, but I was advised by someone who experienced it first hand NOT to do it.

We have a few of these where I work, Im curious, do you put entire pistol into it, or field strip it and then place pieces in it. Also do you still run a brush down the barrel, or do you just place dirty barrel into cleaner? After cleaning do you just let dry then put light coat of oil onto it? I think i wouldnt be placing whole guns into it, just barrels and mabey slides.

I've used ultrasonic cleaners to do barrels before, and they came out quite well. Definitely do small parts testing with any bluing, paint, or plastics.

You need to field strip the gun first, brush the parts a little bit. Once done, you can use an air hose to blast dry the parts or air dry them before putting the parts back together. This is how it's done at SPAG (the range in South Philly) and costs $10.

If you don't have any custom painting (I have some odd friends) a regular disassembly will be safe
