Definitely check out the new Visitors center, esp the Cyclorama painting. Well worth the cost. I think the Park Service and the Gettysburg Foundation did a great job on the new place.

I'm sitting in the Comfort Inn on York St [Rt. 30] as we just checked in for my daughter's college graduation this weekend.

I'll second seeing the refurbished visitor center, do the drive around battle field tour and there are the 'ghost' tours in town w/ some interesting stories...

    Lot's to do here.

We were just there a couple weeks ago, stop in the visitors center, they can give you info on walking or driving tours and things to do/see and the associated times for all. (no gun zone-natl parks)

It looks like a great town for just walking around also!!!

and there it a good diner outside of town that is "carry" freindly.

I'll see if I can find the address for you, unless someone beats me to it...

Check out the Menu, Doug Stultz will fix practically anything you want, cooked to order.. Tell em that Bettys handsome son inlaw from Missouri Carnivore sent ya !!

    Gettysburg Family Restaurant

Be sure to check out 'The Dobbin House' especially their 'Springhouse Tavern' - it's a back in time dining experience ... I don't know about anyone else but I'm greatly disappointed with the new visitors center - the period experience is lost as it's too much like an airport terminal ... don't have any trouble carrying period shootin irons around town but just be careful that you don't unwittingly wander onto national park jurisdiction - they're not at all understanding and even less forgiving = I speak from experience.

I'll second the 'Springhouse Tavern' It has been our favorate place to eat in town. Farnsworth House [w/ the cannonball in the side of the building] is good too!

My daughter works for one of the ghost tours; we brought her hoop skirts with us...

We go to Gettysburg 3 or 4 times a year and love it . Unlike the others , we were real dis appointed with the new visitor center.
Don't blame me ; I voted for an American .
