Someone was telling me that Harrisburg Bass Pro is closing the fine gun room. Anybody know why?

It has actually already been closed for several months. Or at least essentially closed anyway, with only a very limited selection of long guns... I'm not sure why though...

you really have to ask why.......some shotguns in there cost more than peoples cars and trucks. Its nice to look at, but i seriously doubt they make any serious sales out of there. Its alot of space not making profit, and they could fill it with merchandise that will profit 10 fold from whats in there now.

Re: Harrisburg Bass Pro Fine Gun Room Closing?
crakkajakka, I gotta disagree. While I'm sure there isn't a huge market for the "fine" guns, that was also where their gunsmiths worked (both let go a few months ago as well) and where they handled the sales of used guns in general. If you stopped in at the right time, you could get some pretty decent deals on used handguns, and they also had some more basic used rifles in the cases if you looked for them from time to time.
Apparently, considering it has been closed, it wasn't bringing in enough profit to make the space worth while, but they had much more than $10,000 shotguns back there too.- I support Israel; "If guns kill people my pencil causes bad spelling."

I'm sure I'm not the only person who considered that the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" room. I generally didn't even go in there when I was in the store, and I'm probably not the only one.

I asked one of the guys back their and they said it was be where they had all of their reloading stuff. He stated that with all of the people that are coming in with reloading questions that is what they have decided to use the space for..... now this was just one of the guys behind the counter so take it for what its worth

Re: Harrisburg Bass Pro Fine Gun Room Closing?
The last time I there, the whole gun section was significantly reduced. Most of the racks of used guns were gone. The hand gun cases were half empty, and racks behind he counter weren't looking much better.
It's just my opinion.....but I would think its better to augment a limited supply of "regular" priced guns with some high end merchandise. It's better than having empty shelves.

Its because they actually had a used Glock 21 in a case in the fine gun room. I love the G21, use it for my primary HD piece but "fine" I dont think so.
