Re: I want to be a Marine.
Just do it. Do not be afraid. You will not be asked to do anything that many before have not already done. I have not regretted 1 minute of my 21 years in the service.

Re: I want to be a Marine.
Boot is some tough work, but it'll be a good experience. Drill Sgt's are loud, obnoxious, full of steam - but are good folks down under the bulldog face they display.
If you're gonna sign up, try to get yourself somewhat physically fit before hand. Run/jog, situps, a little bit of weight training, etc. And be prepared to get yelled at, alot.. Also, if you're the type who laughs when being yelled at - you better fix that real quick.
If you're smart, try to time your entrance for in the fall. Spring and summer are no time to be running around Parris Island in 90% humidity and 90'F temps. What chilly nights there are over the winter are easily dealt with.Last edited by knight0334; May 14th, 2009 at 04:03 PM.

Re: I want to be a Marine.
Best things to do...
Get your cardio up. I'd suggest running at the very least 2 miles a day. Dont worry TOO much about building muscle and bulking up. Cardio is more important than physical strength in my opinion. Just concentrate on the basics (pull ups, situps, pushups, etc). The healthier you are before boot camp, the easier boot camp will be.
Get your head right. Do as much research and talk to as many actual Marines as you can. Make sure your mentally ready and prepared for boot camp. Be prepared for alot of verbal and attempted mental abuse. But if your a true Marine, that "Attempted mental abuse" wont get to you at all.
Dont be afraid. Just do what your told and do it without any whining or bitching.
Just make sure you go in as healthy and as fit as you can, both physically and mentally and be ready for anything....and you'll do just fine.
Good luck to ya."A peaceful mind generates power"
