Beretta 92 Guide Rod?

If I replace the plastic guide rod that came in my 92 do I need to use a different spring as well? I saw a Wolff steel guide rod for 23 bucks on midwayusa.com. I just dont like the idea of a plastic guide rod. also dont like the plastic trigger but that seems more involved. the guide rod would be an easy in and out.

No need to replace the spring when you replace the guide rod. I replace all my plastic ones with stainless steel as well.

I've replaced both my plastic parts. Wolf springs work great with the reg old metal one. I got the metal trigger off of ebay for $10.

Has there been a documented failure of a plastic guide rod from a 92? I prefer all metal guns, but it doesn't make sense to me that parts need to be replaced just because they are plastic.

Who manufactured it? Is it aluminum or steel? Cast, MIM, or forged?

I've got a 96D with a plastic rod which seems to work fine. I cannot believe that they went to plastic for the trigger! How cheap can you get!

I do not believe that you need to replace the spring.

I have an all-Italian made 92FS dated 2004 and has all metal parts. The M9 I picked up a few weeks ago has the plastic guide rod, trigger, and left side safety lever. The trigger actually appears to be polymer coated metal, somewhat similar to the HK USP trigger. If you examine the top part of the trigger you can seen exposed steel. I've yet to hear of a failure of the recoil rod or any of the other now-plastic parts on the Beretta. In some applications it doesn't matter if the part is polymer or steel.

Metal,plastic,it really doesn't matter because there's just not enough room for any major distortion so the material is not an issue as far as the recoil assembly goes.
Personally,I do change to the stainless steel type because I like the shiney
little dot under my highly polished barrels.Beautiful !
