Just finished my first ar 15 pistol build. Safety drilled like a 1911?
So my first build was very........ Educational to say the least. All went well. Until I got to my safety detent installation.
I'm 99% sure the detent notch in my safety selector was drilled wrong. I can't install it any other way. The selector simply cannot be installed reverse.
Compared to online selectors, the notches for the detent to engaged appear to be cut on the wrong side of te selector.
My safety functions like a 1911. Is this a common amateur mistake?
Sweep down for fire:
Push up for safe:
Do I have a mismade selector here? I've never seen this nor heard of it.
I'm thoroughly stumped ...........Last edited by Zet70; July 13th, 2013 at 11:50 PM.

That is wrong. When in "safe" the selector should be 180 degrees from how it is in the lower pic.

Thats backwards the "arrow" should point to safe when on safe, yours points to what would be FA or Burst.

Looks like you ordered an M16 full auto selector switch somewhere along the way. There is more to it than simply drilling the detent recess in the wrong location in order for the selector to move into that position. Pull it out and check to see if it has three flat faces. If it does, you got the wrong part. The other possibility is that you ordered a selector for a left hand drive model if it doesn't move to the forward safe position in it's current configuration.

I got it in a "Tonys" marked parts kit today at the Allentown gun show. Ill pull it out now and try again. This is odd......
Pretty sure it's a semi selector. Just cut wrong. Here's a psa selector. Mines not the same. Balls. Anyone want to trade?
And mine:

Id agree its cut wrong, if it was a left handed selector it would have notches on the lever side as well.
