Here ya go guys, complete with official Commonwealth of PA state seal. Click to enlarge, print it out and carry it with you or paste it on a cap or your shirt!

And no, I am not advocating that you actually do this...just an attempt at humor...

but it is a great looking badge!

Wow , if anyone I thought the mind of a fellow Jeeper would understand !

    Simple version

A CCW badge displayed in the immediate aftermath of a clean self defense shooting may buy the victim a few precious seconds of delay from the first responding officers to sort out who is who . And discarding the mere possibility of its potential utility ( under extremely narrow circumstances) , simply because having one would automatically associate one with universally reviled mall ninja hood is short sighted .

I understood you...I was just joking with you (hence the decoder ring reference).

I just don't agree with you. I don't think a cop is going to arrive on the scene, start shooting everyone - except you with your handy, dandy Cracker Jack badge.

If a cop shows up and is that trigger happy, no badge or shouting is going to save you.

I don't place it under "mall ninja" - I place it under the "I failed to grow up" category. Or worse: the "Hey, there's a November clearance sale of Halloween costume gear at Dollar General, so I picked up a badge to impress my cheap girly and my loser friends" category.

    * My apologies to those who have cheap girlies or loser friends.

Joking also , hence the smiley ! Like I said Im not really saying anything other then the idea of tossing it straight in the reject pile for no other reason then what amounts to " image " is a poor reason to not discuss as in depth as possible the potential pros and cons .

Yeah, the guy holding the gun on the perp might be an off-duty cop...so let's hope the responding cop does not start shooting at the guy holding the gun.

BTW, maybe some of our resident LEOs here could answer this scenario... say you, as an off-duty LEO, in a jurisdiction where you are not known, are holding a suspect at gunpoint.

You have not called 911 because your phone is dead. But apparently someone else has because you hear sirens and see cop cars coming.

Do you pull out your badge and ID before the responders get on the scene and hold it up to identify yourself right away?

Do you verbally identify yourself first?

Is there a "secret code word" between LEOs that you shout out to your fellow LEOs so they know you are a good guy?

    Just wondering.

    Here's a vid clip:

    And the Blazing Saddles clip

I like the original best, but it's always good to see a reference pop up, like this one also from the movie "UHF".
Thanks for the clips. It's the one from 1948 that they use on SIRIUS Outlaw Country. I had no idea where it came from but it always makes me laugh.

Great flick. I remember seeing it in a film class. I was bummed we had to watch a black and white film (hey, I was young and stupid), but I couldn't quit watching it.

That actually happened to me in 1986 . I was holding my badge case up with left hand hollering police officer as loud as I could until they checked my ID. and took over the scene .
Don't blame me ; I voted for an American .
