How about just stating who you are or holstering your gun when the threat is over? I don't see any scenario where a badge while in street clothes is going to stop you from being shot. If someone is that amped up the visual of a badge is negligible.
It's just fucking dumb. If it wasn't ltcf's would be badges

You're 65 years old and you feel the need to carry a fake shield because you might get shot by police. Am I confused? I'm a few years older than you so that might be the case.

What the fuck are you talking about!

"How about just stating who you are or holstering your gun when the threat is over?"

What if the threat isn't over?
What if you don't see the LE, you are in his sights and he is making a split decision to take you down.
... any of a number of other scenarios.

    .
In Gifford's shooting, the perp was taken down by two unarmed men while the perp went to reload.

What if the perp had been shot by an armed citizen, then that citizen was shot, mistaken to be the perp by another passersby running to the scene?

What if, what if, what if ...

If you aren't shot by the cop first, then comply with his demands.

Life is "what if". That doesn't mean I'm not going to make informed decisions to mitigate the if.

And yeah, I'd prefer to not be shot by the cop. Of course you'd comply with the cops demands. The BG, not so much.

.... But this is about the legality of carrying the badge, if the law changed.

That's fine if you don't want to, or understand why a person would.

I don't know if they're legal or not.

As far as "What if"? That game is endless. If you don't see the cop how is he seeing the badge? What if he's behind you? What if he's to the side? What if he thinks the badge is a ruse and you are a threat?

I'd rather be focused on the threat, my firearm, the good guys than be fumbling for something of little value in such a situation. And I'm not going to walk around with it visible because that could put me in bad situations

It is not illegal to have a concealed carry badge, no more than it is to wear a CCW sash.

You still need to have an LTCF.
