There is no gun registration in PA and a gun given from father to son does not need any paper work to be a legal transfer. So you are good to go

Everything goon said is correct.... But we should offer this clarification:

Only if the two parties are both Pa.residents... otherwise, for an interstate transfer, even between parent an child an FFL must do the transfer (exception for bequest and intestate secession)

Other than that **clarification** to an otherwise correct point. Everything goon said is spot on

Ooops, yep, I should have mentioned that. I was assuming dad and son were both PA residents... but we know what happens when you assume... lol!

Thanks, Rich, for keeping me straight on

my father used to live in pa where he purchased the gun. moved to newjersey about 10 years ago. is that still considered out of state since the gun was bought in pa.

I guess it would depend on when he gave them to you, since you did not specify if it was when he was a Jersey resident or if it was when he was a Pennsylvania resident. If he moved out of state after giving them to you it is irrelevant.

Question Re: Do I need to register my gun.

My dad also gave me a WW II p-38 before he died. I was wondering if the same rules apply to my gun. Please let me know.

    Were you both Pa. residents?

If so no paperwork required. (ref 18Pa.C.S.6111c)

    Enjoy your special heirloom.
