    Default Ticks

The last few years has seen an explosion in the tick population in my and surrounding counties. Is their going to be an end to this? Frankly they make things unpleasant any more in the woods.I was hoping this years cold with not much snow cover would kill them but no such luck.

A few years ago on SGL 51, there was massive amounts of Deer Keds. http://www.ento.psu.edu/extension/fa.../deer_keds.htm They drove us out of the woods. we didn't know what they were at the time but I called Penn State and they sent a "Bug Sample Kit" I sent them a few of the bugs and they called me with the info on them and also sent me a link to what they were. Pretty neat service Penn State offer. Pretty nasty little bug too.

Me too. Hard as hell to kill. You had to roll them between your fingers to do any damage.

Ticks are nasty in Lawrence Co. this year as well.

In Quebec those are called Deer flies or horse flies, depends if your in the country or closer to the city and near horses. They have a nasty bite and dont need to be provoked like bees to attack. Mind you, unlike bees, they dont swarm on you, generally you get one or two stings if you go in the bush and can easely forget they are there for the most part.

Ked. Hmm. I'll keep an eye out.

Deer fly, horse fly,, hate those things. I used to run through a state game lands and those goddamn things woud litterally follow you for miles.

Ticks. Hate them too. Permanone and flee/tick collars around the ankles works.
