I guess you could probably turn down the barrel at the gas block and then cut it. And thread it install the tapco AMD break / extension piece, time it and weld it. Right? That would just leave you with a handguard clamp to deal with.

What do the trunion sides of these barrels look like and how do they differ?

I was wrong about the AKM trunion, you can see from that post I werent in too good a shape when I made it.

The Trunion, GB etc can be used from a yugo or you can get more creative with the build and turn down the barrel to fit the AKM trunion. I like the RPK trunion idea as it would be beefier. I would have finished the barrel profile a lil different than whats shown in that pic, but you can do it up in whatever way you choose really.

Thats whats so cool about builds.

*Edit, that gun would look much nicer with a Romanian/Russian drum on it.*

The trunnion for PRK barrels should be the same as they are for Yugos. Yugos use a "heavier" barrel with the bulged trunnion and the RPK receiver. I'm guessing that you can use a Yugo trunnion and mill it done to fit a standard receiver.

Another option is to use a Yugo trunnion and a yugo receiver to build your AMD kit.

Ok, I meant the trunion side of the barrel. Not the trunion itself. I realize that the Yugo / barrel trunion is beefier in comparison, as evidenced by their receivers.

What I meant is the actual barrel diameter / fitment @ the trunion different from the RPK barrel to the AKM barrel?

Could it just be turned down, is there some irregular shape that would make that an impossibility? I have to theorize here because I don't have any of these parts in front of me. So if I seem thick on some portion of this - realize I'm a visual person / do-er, and trying to think it out without anything in front of me is for the suck.

I don't know any dimensions nor do I have any parts in front of me but ...

I would think that a RPK barrel could just be turned down to fit in an AKM trunnion. Don't see why there would be anything to get in the way.

It would definitely take some extra work but would be interesting. Could help with the AMDs reputation for getting hot easily.

    From theakforum.net ...

No AMD barrels available at present. You can substitute a euro barrel off a Rmanian. Polish etc. But you need to then set the headspace and repopulate the barrel with the components if you get a stripped barrel. Not rocket science but not a beginner chore in most cases. Copes had a pre-buy on semi-virgin AMD barrels some months ago but dunno where that is now.
AMD 65 kit has no bayo lug on the gas block, if that matters, but all the barrel components will fit up to a standard euro barrel.

Expect to pay $80 to $130 for a stripped to complete barrel.

Cool Re: Where to get AK 47 barrels?

I have several used Yugo M70 takeoff barrels available, even some RPK barrels as well. I might have a Romanian barrel or two, if I look hard enough.

Send me a private msg thru the forum and I'll get back to you with more information, pricing, etc.......
