Beer Run
So I went to the beer store today after work, Craig Street Distributor to be exact, I hand them my ID to get a case of Miller Lite to cool down in this heat, and they say it didnt scan. I hand them my LTCF and they say that it could be a fake so they cant accept either forms of ID. It has to be a state issued ID that scans. All I said was that it was a state id, when the lady there said she didnt care it neednt to scan I just walked out. I was annoyed so I went over to Mellingers to get a case. Gave them my ID (it DID scan) and asked about LTCF. Cant take LTCF but if ID doesnt scan and double check both IDs. I called the Pittsburgh Police afterwards to ask them if they dont have to accept my IDs and they said they have full right.
I guess I have two points. FIRST, Do NOT buy from Craig Street because they are incompetent and worthless. Second, what is the point of an ID if store owners can simply refuse your ID if they dont like it? I understand there are a problem with fakes but if I have two IDs that show that Im 21 I dont get.
Sorry for the rant I just hate this kinda a stuff. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Re: Beer Run
my drivers license didn't scan for the last year or so i had it (until i renewed), though this was for smokes. The cashiers (mostly at WaWa) would try to scan in while i told them it didn't scan, the had a confused look and i would just tell them to check the date.
To my knowledge talking to friends who worked in sales that required ID check they didn't teach them how to look for fakes. The bank i worked at barely did, but had a book on what to look for.

Re: Beer Run
They are dumbasses! They don't sell to people under 25 after a certain point in the night.

Re: Beer Run
I wonder if that big magnet I rubbed my DL on will cause mine not to scan?

Re: Beer Run
it probably has to do with going to a distro on craig street. try any of the distro's away from the colleges and you probably won't have the same problem.

Re: Beer Run
I got there way before their 4pm rule (which is freakin ridiculous). The woman was just plain ignorant and not willing to check my ids. She scanned it and pretty much told me to shop else where.

Re: Beer Run
Here's one for y'all......
The State of Indiana will still prosecute liquor stores if the ID is fake EVEN WHEN IT IS REAL.
By this I mean, look at old newspaper for "Baby Death" announcements in the year that will make you 21 and 9 months old. Write to Department of Health for Birth Certificate, write to SocSec for new SSN card (lost your wallet at college). Use new BC and SSN Card to get driver's License.
New License is REAL with faked or false information.
Yet if used to get booze, the clerk goes to jail for one year.
I learned this when I was in college and working at a beer store. The owner made us take the State Fake ID class. When this came up, I had the Booze Cop walk us through the whole process to make sure I understood it correctly.
The ID will pass every test one normally has at the store or bar so one would not think it to be bad.
But the law is written that the data is bad - the cleark/bartended goes to jail.
I resigned at the end of the class. Owner was not real happy with me.

Re: Beer Run
Holy crap! Are you sure this wasn't just a scare tactic to make you be real sure when you check an ID? I worked at a Casino in Mississippi as Security for 2 years and I'd have quit too if I could get into that much trouble. there should be some common sense clause in some laws that are made or proposed.
