Default Shooting Slugs at a SGL Range

This may be me being overly literal, but I am trying to get out and take my new 870 for a walk tomorrow. I saw that the SGL regs say that you can shoot after noon on Sundays at the ranges. They also say that they have rifle and pistol ranges. Would I get cited by a WCO for taking the 870 out and putting some slugs downrange? I believe that I am abiding by the spirit of a rifle range by only shooting a single projectile, but I really don't want a ticket.

Also, are these SGL ranges open on holidays? I don't see why they wouldn't be, but I also don't have every reg. memorized. I would appreciate someone with some experience at these ranges chiming in.

I live in Erie County and would be using SGL 109.

PS- The picture on the top of the page when looking at the SGL ranges has a sign that says "Shot Shells Prohibited," if you were looking for a bit of irony in my question.

Check the regs online just to be sure

People shoot slugs at my local sgl range all the time. They zero their hunting guns. I have always believed the rule about shotguns was referring to shot.

Hopefully someone will be aline shortly with the actual reg

I have seen the same thing and like you, I believe that most people assume that the rule is about using shot. I would also like to hear or see a confirmation on this just so I know for sure.

The regulations are against shot shells. Slugs are ok. When you get there, and see the thousands or millions of shell husks strewn all the way up to 3 feet from the backstops, you'll realize you're ok. I was at my local SGL Friday, and near one of the benches (and in a line all the way up to the backstop) was literally ankle deep in husks. Surprisingly, that end of the backstop and support was completely destroyed and all over the ground. Fing animals.

That aside, DO be sure you know the regs, and at least print a copy and carry it with your range permit/hunting license. When the state troopers come up there, they will nitpick everything they can find.

Unless the rules have changed in whiten the last year or so Slugs are OK but buckshot or birdshot is not.

I believe it's so the target holders don't get torn up.

So I went to the range before open hours this morning (opens at noon on Sundays) and ran into a WCO. He confirmed that slugs are ok, and gave me a run down of the regs. I had gone before opening kind of hoping I would get stopped, and didn't take any gear with me so that anyone who stopped me would not be suspicious that I was up to no good. After a pretty pleasant conversation, I went on my way with my questions answered and looking forward to a good day of shooting. Thanks everyone for weighing in.
