    Question Cartridge length

I bought a box of Winchester super X 45-70 Gov. 300gr jacketed hollow point ammo today. When I got home I pulled the bullet holder out of the box and found 9 different lengths of brass sticking out of the styrafoam block. over a half an inch difference. I thought Oh crap bad batch. pulled out the micrometer and started measuring. What i found was a styrafoam block had different depth holes which account for the casing length above the block. Since I was measuring I figured the whole box any way. What I found was a short length of 2.53" to along of 2.548". in the ONE BOOK ONE CALIBER reloading manual for 45-70 all the lengths with a bullet is listed as 2.550. Is there a problem with the 2.53 length cartridge?
Looking at this after I typed it, it looks kind of anal to me. However when I reload there will not be that much difference.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

    You shouldn't have any problem.

With exception to the Buffalo Bore and a couple others, all 45-70 ammo is loaded at its powderpuff "Trapdoor" level. Winchester's Super-X 300gr JHP's have been coming like that for many years, too big of a box for the foam and shells. I've gone through countless boxes of it without a problem, and is probably the most accurate factory load there is in my Handy rifle and Buffalo Classic.

Theres no need to be that anal with OAL's. OAL will change depending on the type and weight of bullets you load.

I figured that was the case but I want to make sure.

    Thanks
