Default Sign of the Apocalypse or that I'm just too old?

Ok, I'm in the supermarket tonight (Genuardi's in Springhouse - northern Philly suburbs FWIW).

For background music they are playing (full original version) of the Ramones - "I Want to be Sedated"

    WTF?????

I mean I don't mind. I'm singing along (it's infectious) and all and then I start to wonder ... When did the Ramones become mainstream?

a few weeks ago, i was food shopping in a local Price Rite. the playlist included: the Clash, the Ramones, Blondie, Bob Marley, the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Peter Murphy (from Bauhaus), Iggy Pop, and Shane McGowan. all of this, in one hour. either good music transcends genre, or they got some hip college kid to program the store radio.

Well, I kinda meant "mainstream" as in middle-aged suburban housewife, not "selling-out" for teen-aged horror movie aficionados.

I think you are just getting old (as am I).
I don't think that there is a bunch of hip young people doing the programing of this type of music in public places.
I think it is guys our age that listened to it back then as well.
I mean I am still listening to Surfer Rosa like it came out last week!LOL
I have heard the Joy Division and Tones On Tail on TV comercials in the last week.
So yeah it is a little wierd to hear stuff in public because it is cool, when you were outcasted for listening to it 25 years ago.LOL

Funny thing is that the stuff I was listening 20 years ago would probably be considered more subversive than the extended teenage rebellion of the Punk scene, if anyone paid any attention to it. Think Zappa's "Joe's Garage" and "Thing Fish"

I gotta hook up the turntable ...
