Unhappy MUTE SWAN HUNTING AT RISK

Mute Swans are an invasive species in the state. The PAGC recommends that the swans be removed at any opportunity. There is no closed season and they may be taken at any time on public lands.

As a result of a single complaint by a State Park employee the DCNR is looking at restricting the hunting of Mute Swans and limiting the taking of swans to the regular waterfowl season. This restriction will give the swans the opportunity to breed making the population grow exponentially.

If you are concerned that your rights are being trampled by the State then this is your opportunity to make yourself heard. This is just another example of an out of control bureaucracy getting in the way of what's right for what's popular.

Mute Swans are gorgeous. They are also voracious in appetite and very damaging to the environment and can deplete a body of water of it's regular waterfowl because if it's territorial nature.

I personally don't hunt the swans (heck my kid would disown me) but I would never want to see someone who does hunt them limited in their outdoor opportunites.

Feel free to voice your concerns to the Park Manager at Nockamixon State Park. Or call your state Reps. Thanks

Why is there no limit on these birds, and a limit on Canadian geese? The damn Canadian geese wreck everything they land on.

Just a quick search came up with this...not 100% sure though. How would you tell a mute swan from any other swan?
