Production amounts

I'm just now planning my reloading equipment. My rough estimate says that I'm gonna need 9,550 rounds of .45 ACP and the same amount of 9mm. Considering I have never reloaded before, is this even practical or should I expect to buy a few boxes of ammo?

What's your timeframe? Very impractical if you wanna do it in a week...possible in a year. It all depends! You're getting into it a little late; you may have trouble finding components like primers, bullets, etc if you don't already have some. I'd recommend to buy some, IF you can even find stocked ammo somewhere. Seems .45 and 9mm are the most popular pistol cartridges and I haven't seen any on the shelves for months.

Timeframe? How quickly do you need to load that many rounds, and how did you come up with the number? Also, good luck finding primers.

I load about 200-300 rnds per hour using an RCBS pro 2000 press.

Friends of mine use Dillon presses. They get alot more production than I do. I think it's around 5 or 6 hundred per hour.

If you invested in a top of the line progressive press like the Dillion Super 1050 with the auto case feeder,etc. You could, in theory, crank out 10,000 rounds in a matter of a few days (all dependent on having the requisite amount of cases, primers, powder, bullets and most importantly - time). Top of the line presses can do 400-600 rounds an hour. (10,000/500 per hour = 20 hrs, spread this out and do 4 hours per day, starting on Monday, you have 10,000 rounds to shoot on Saturday

Interesting number you came up with. Is that per month or year? You know you can reload the brass more then once. If you had 1k of brass you can reload them 10 times in a year and get that many rounds.

Everything is in short supply. Primers are very hard to find. Powder is getting low at a few places I've been to. Acquiring that much brass is going to get expensive in today's market. Almost everything has doubled in price each year for the last 2 years.

Now, if you had one of these the manufacturer claims 5,000 per hour. The best I could do was almost 3000.

That's my estimate for a year. I'm planning for 200 rounds a week including about a magazine of carry ammo just to make sure everything is working right.
