Default Re: Newberry Township Meeting with State Senator Jeff Piccola

Just a little follow up to the meeting in Newberry Township with State Senator
Jeff Piccola, this past Wed. night, 05/02/07. The "Town Meeting " was
not well attended, but the Senator was gracious and answered the questions
and concerns of the citizens present.
I was able to ask my questions in regards to the various Bills before the House of Representives, effecting gun control and citizens rights. Senator Piccola by the
way is a NRA Life Member. He is well aware that PA. has the right to "Open Carry". He appears to believe that there are enough controls/laws on the
books. He acknowledged that criminals do not obey the law. I advised him of
the 1.4 million open warrants for summary offenses to murder, presently in the
PA Court system. He acknowledged also my concern that in criminal prosecutions
that the charge of carrying/using a firearm in the commission of crimes is dealt away by District Attorneys. However it is our responsibility to hold them account-
able to prosecute the offenders, they are elected officals.
The meeting lasted 2 hours, when it only had been scheduled for a hour. I mentioned to him that I am a member of PAFOA, he is aware of the organization
and our website. He mentioned that our members are very vigilant in watching
for firearms legislation. All in all, he was forthright and did not dodge any issue.
