Default THE NATIONAL PARK CONCEALED CARRY REGULATION NEEDS YOUR HELP

THE NATIONAL PARK CONCEALED CARRY REGULATION NEEDS YOUR HELP

On January 9th, 2009, the Virginia Citizens Defense League’s petition to amend the National Parks weapons regulation (36CFR 2.4) , of which the PA Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs was a co-petitioner, was partially realized. However, on March 19th an activist judge issued an injunction against that rule on behalf of the Brady Campaign because she claimed a holstered and concealed handgun might somehow affect the environment.

Please contact your Congressional representatives to ask for help with this important issue.

    ACTION ITEM:

While the NRA-ILA has filed an appeal to the decision to stay the new regulation, the court has given the Interior Department until 4/20/09 to answer the Court. This means either conducting the environmental analysis that the Court wants, or a host of other options. Many believe the best course of action is for the DOI to conduct the environmental impact analysis and implement the January 9, 2009 regulation which we have supported.

Please contact your U.S. Representatives and Senators. Many legislators have already supported concealed carry and previously agreed the Interior Department should implement this logical change, but we need their help now, too.

Please tell them: You want their office to contact the Interior Department on your behalf and urge the Department to conduct the environmental analysis necessary to implement the January 9th, 2009 regulation permitting lawfully concealed firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. Insist that you want your Second Amendment right to self-defense to include taxpayer-owned parks and refuges as the recent amendment specified.

Also, tell your Congressman or Senator's legislative assistant you want them to support HR 1684 & SB 816 which would make the new regulation permanent law.

When you contact the legislator’s office be sure you specifically ask to speak with a legislative aide who handles Second Amendment issues. If none is available, be polite and tell the office you would like that aide to call you back. Also, be polite, tell them you are a member of the Federation and the NRA, and don’t be too lengthy when speaking with the aide. But be sure to give enough detail so they have a good understanding of the situation and your position. Do NOT accept if they say 'the representative/senator is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment'! Be sure they understand you want them to urge the Interior Department to implement the January 9th right-to-carry regulation AND to support and vote for HR 1684 & SB816 which codify the new regulations. Tell them 41 Senators, including Sen. Specter, and a number of Representatives had already written the Interior Department and specifically asked for this change. Ask them to please support this regulation.

Please spread the word and ask your friends to help, too.

Thank you for posting this. I’ve been wondering where this stupid injunction has been going. It is nice to know I can do something to maybe help get things moving along.
