Smile PA State Police- did I miss something?

This may have been discussed already, and I must have missed it- but what is up with the decision to go with .45 GAP? I love the .45, but why would the state pick such an expensive, out-of-the-way caliber such as the GAP?
If anyone can enlighten me, I'd be thankful. I don't have an opinion yet- but want to get all the facts before I formulate one.
    Thanks-Plain Old Bill

I can only assume it's because the 45gap is about the size(length) of a 9mm, but delivers the same, or near the same, stopping power of the 45acp. I have never held or shot one, but the glock 37 is about the same size as the glock 17 so the grip should make it an easier transition. Other sp's are transitioning to the gap as well. As far as price. Hey the tax payers are rich.

Just curious, how is recoil on pistols using the 45GAP? Is it less than the ACP? Similar to a .40SW? 9mm?

If two pistols, a 45acp and 45gap, weigh the same and the cartridges/loads are of the same energy level/velocity/bullet weight - then the recoil is gonna be darn near the same.

However, most 45gap pistols weigh slightly less than an equivalent 45acp, so the recoil will be more.

What wrong with them 96D? Someone feel the need to throw money away needlessly. Remember the 357SIG fever?...........not very popular round now. Why not just stick with the old tried-and-true man and horse stopper, the good old 45 ACP?

Sometime people on the top who made these silly decisions are like shrimps, they got crap for brain, he he he...

You got that right! The people at Glock have such a marketing department that the LE world is just beside themselves to turn in their current offering and take them up on whatever they offer. I can personally attest that Glock is providing these firearms to PSP for PENNIES on the dollar. Truly a shame, because the money they save now on the switch to the Glock will be eaten up very quickly by the outrageous cost of ammo.
Mark my words.....the PSP will be switching to a different gun and/or caliber within 5 years. Most of the troopers are fairly unhappy with the switch.

Anyone know what PSP plan to do with them soon to be "surplus" 96D? Hope they don't gather them up and melt them down like they did to them P7 in Joisey, he he he.........

    Same reason, different cartridge.

Back when it was 9mm cops couldn't shoot straight so they went to 40, cops still couldn't shoot straight now they're at 45. cops still can't shoot straight, so i'm sure they'll find the next caliber soon enough. All 3 calibers work when they hit something vital, all three don't work when they don't.
