    Default Sig 220 carry or S&W 1911PD

3 months of research, test fired a few different types and I have narrowed my search down to a Sig 220 Carry or a S&W 1911PD 4". Primary use will be concealed carry once I have broken it in. As much as a fan of Sigs as I am, I am tending to lean towards the S&W bc of the thinner frame which would help with concealing it. I am not into customizing but I do realize the S&W would give me more options. They are both roughly the same price new. I have read all the reviews, range reports that I could find and now I would appreciate anyone's two cents.

Why not best of both worlds and go with a Sig GSR?

I own two 1911s: the S&W 101282 and the Sig GSR Carry.

    Both are excellent firearms.

However for ease of concealed carry and deadly accuracy out of the box, the GSR Carry hands down!!

    My $0.02...

    Good luck with your purchase.

    Stay well.

Maybe I have been reading the wrong reviews, but it seems Sig still needs to work on its 1911 models. But also I have yet to see a SIG 1911 in a shop, let alone have the chance to fire one. But originally I was interested in the 1911 Carry Nitron

First generation GSR's were problematic. They were made of up of pieces from various vendors and they had some problems getting it right. After the first generation they have been tack drivers with great reliability. No MIM, no need to customize - already are built pretty much the way you'd want them. Dealers generally don't stock them, because Sig isn't really known for their 1911's. Kimber & Springfield dominate with S&W, Dan Wesson and lesser brands owning smaller, but still significant shares of the market. Just about anything is hard to find these days. I've been waiting since 2/5 for my Sig Nitron RCS to show-up at my dealer. Good luck in your quest.

    Adios,

I almost bought a Sig GSR last year when I'd given up hope of finding a Springfield Loaded Champion. I came across the Champion and bought it instead of the Sig only because it's what I'd wanted for several years. I think the GSR is still sitting at Handgunner in Topton. It had a funky set of digi-camo grips, but it felt nice to hold.

Sig, S&W - Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I recently picked up a P220 Carry in single action only, with beavertail. Pretty much the features of the 1911 I like but with Sig reliability. Put 150rnds through it so far and it's a keeper.

I have a 220 Carry and like it very much but with the full size grip it can print quite a bit, of course I'm using a Blackhawk Serpa so its not the ideal setup for CC. I don't own a S&W so I can't comment on it but my Sig hasn't malfunctioned once yet.
