Default Quick AR-15 Stock "Thwangg" Question

I remember a good while back, but couldn't find the old thread that someone had a suggestion on how to remedy the "thwanggggg" sound in the stock of my AR. It was some kind of grease you put on the spring. Also, is it a matter of a little dab will do ya with the grease, or should I lube it up real good. (oh god, i just realized what i wrote and i bet the first post is going to be obscene). So, I'm talking about the grease on the spring you sickos!

    Grease the spring.

Caveat: Grease will *potentially* reduce the reliability of the gun as it collects dirt, retards the speed/inertia of the buffer motion, can gum up in cold, etc etc.

For a game/target/etc gun, may not be an issue.
For a self defense gun I would just deal with the thwang

I've never hand a problem with the thwang... Maybe I'm lucky?

The thing I notice way way more is the PLUNK of the disconnector letting go of the hammer and it springing forward briefly before meeting up with the normal trigger contact surfaces. This happens as I slowly release the trigger to get ready for a follow up shot.

Not to mention the nice little grease spot you get on EVERY shirt you have on while shooting the thing after you grease the spring

not me, I never believed in putting grease where it doesn't belong. I givem a mild coat of Eezox and good to go.

I have however had multiple people come in my shop with a nice black stain from over oiling and using grease. Enough so that now when someone brings an AR in from the range for whatever reason, I seem to instinctivly look at the front of thier shirt

I have seen guys with black spots up the side of thier faces from over oiling the buffer tube/spring.

The twang in an AR A1 or A2 buffer is like the clank in a Sten receiver, If it doesn't happen THEN you worry.

No argument here... however, I have experimented years ago with running grease in the buffer tube of my own "game guns" and never got the grease spot, thus my Q.

I've always thought the "twang" to be a good thing, when it changes sound you've either got a malfunction or an empty mag.

If it bothers you enough to spend the money, a hydraulic buffer will get rid of the twang.
