Default PA Inspection and Emissions for Motor Vehicles

I got my car inspected for the year and since I drive this car less than 5,000 miles last year I'm exempted from emissions. I looked at my bill when I got home and I paid $19.95 for the exempted emissions? Is this a state mandatory fee? If so then this is a crock of shit and a rip off IMHO They get you coming and going Does anyone else have a vehicle that's exempted from emissions and have to pay this exempted fee? My car is 20 years old and I can't wait to get a classic plate so I don't have to pay this state another dime for inspection and emission.

I have a jeep that I use as a 2nd car - I keep the mileage on it very low, so it is also emision exempt. But when you get the car inspected, you still have to have an emissions exempt sticker put on it (At least in my area) So they still charge you for the sticker. Thats the $20 cost.
If you're not outraged & disgusted, you are simply not paying atttention

The disgusting thing is that 99% of cars pass the emissions test in the first place, so the whole program is a money-making fraud.

    * I got the 99% stat from a news article that had a survey of mechanics. This was about a year or so ago, so I can't recall what newspaper carried the article.

Cool Re: PA Inspection and Emissions for Motor Vehicles

Always has been a money maker for the state.. What exactly is entailed in emission testing.....They plug your car into a computer, computer reads codes or lack thereof from your car....transmits this information and viola your done..if you have no codes you passed...I don't understand why they go after us in cars when commercial and or diesel vehicles are exempt and they put out the most emissions..If I had a dollar for every emission test done in this state for one year, I would never have to work again!!!!!!!!

In Mercer County, they just do a visual inspection and vacuum test the gas cap.

The thing that really frosts me is that this county only does testing because they tested the busiest traffic areas to determine that the whole county needs emissions inspections. We have far more trees and cows than cars! GRRRR!

The entire inspection process and registration process and drivers license fee and emissions process are nothing more then moneymakers for the state. They serve no other purpose.

There hasn't been anything that proves that having inspections helps reduce accidents or the severity of accidents.

All it does is make you pay a tax on top of the registration tax to own a vehicle and if you don't pay the tax then the police can pull you over and fine you until you pay their tax
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

You still have to have inspections done with classic plates. With antique plates you do not, but there are certain restrictions on when you can drive.
