Default Open Carry, and a thank you.

My every so slow approach to my first ever Open Carry outing.

Growing up as a kid, I was always around guns of some sort, My very first gun was a beautiful little pale/pinkish colored one. It was a nice little neat gun if I recall. It never ran out of bullets and was always with me. I still own it as a matter of fact, and still carry it everywhere I go.( I can simply make it by simply making a fist and extending my pointer finger and thumb) It just doesn’t have the same effects as it did back in the day.
My next gun would have been a toy gun, then up to a BB gun then to a 22, and such.

At the age of 21 and same days I went down to the local courthouse and got a LTCF, it was issued the same date. Off to the fun store I went. After looking at all the guns, I opted for a 22 so I could understand the basics. I got it home, and that’s the very first time I opened carried. I holstered the new gun, grabbed some shells and walked out the door and the 200 feet to where or targets where. I practiced many of nights that summer.

The following year I obtained some larger calibers, and continued to practice. I then purchased an IWB holster. I carried like that for about a year or 2. No one ever singled me out, But I seemed to always wear a larger shirt, or an extra coat to make sure I wasn’t printing.

Next came an OWB, I normally wore this during the cooler months. I would always wear a button up shirt or coat to apply some cover to the gun and holster. But at times the shirt was never long enough so the bottom of the holster would show. But once again. No one ever pointed and laughed or stopped at stared.

Finally the day had come, where I decided to man up and take the journey on the OPEN CARRY road. I recall thinking to myself, that I have obtained enough information that I could possibly educate the un educated about the issue mostly thanks to this site. So I strapped on the holster, and headed straight for the mirror. I thought to myself, “Does this gun make my but look big”. I guess I thought this to try to calm the nerves. Anyhow, I was off, rode into town, got out of the truck and into the local store.

Back out of the store. Into the next store. Back out of the store. Nothing no snickers. Not one comment. So back into the truck I went and headed for home, thinking how could I have left the open carry club down. So after sitting down and thinking, I’ve came up with that the next time I open carry, ill have to carry a bigger gun. I guess a Ruger P series just isn’t big enough to be noticeable. And secondly I’m glad I haven’t paid the open carry club dues, Because ill be kicked out for sure now.

So a Big THANK YOU Goes Out to the founder of this site DANP, and all the members and moderators that has assisted me in the journey. Not just the members who have responded to my replies, but those who have posted anywhere on here with useful information. I definitely could not just go open carry cold turkey.

I know this site helped me realize that it was actually legal. You don't normally see someone else OCing, hopefully places like this helping in the way that it helped you will change that.

Thanks for sharing. I admit that your little pale/pinkish gun that you still carry everywhere threw me off at first
